SYMPOSIUM: The Illuminated Legal Manuscript, Results Achieved and Future Research Objectives (Lisbon: Pharmacy Museum Auditorium, 20 SEPT 2023)


To celebrate its fifth year of existence, the IUS ILLUMINATUM Research Team (https://iusilluminata.fcsh.unl.pt), organizes on September 20th, 2023, in collaboration with the Institute of Medieval Studies (IEM) of NOVA /FCSH, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Lisbon, the Lisbon Pharmacy Museum and the Portuguese Institute of Heraldry its 4th International Vorkshop entitled The Illuminated Legal Manuscript: Results Achieved and Future Research Objectives.

The event, which will take place in person in Lisbon, at the Auditorium of the Lisbon Pharmacy Museum, aims to communicate to a wider audience the results of the investigations carried out by the team members during the fifth year of its existence, to make a balance of what has already been done and outline possible research perspectives. This Workshop also aims to provide an overview of the development of research on illuminated legal manuscripts in Europe, with the aim of reflecting on the methodological implications and the practical and theoretical challenges that this research entails. During this scientific event, different case studies related to some regions of the European territory will be analysed through an interdisciplinary approach to overcome limits and open innovative and fruitful research avenues.
