The Chair for Globalisation and Legal Pluralism at the Department of Legal and Constitutional History is looking to employ a university assistant (postdoc) as soon as possible for a period of four years. The Chair’s research centres on globalisation processes in law from a historical perspective, with the aim of challenging Europe-centric narratives and putting the focus on complex dynamics of change.

The Chair for Globalisation and Legal Pluralism at the Department of Legal and Constitutional History is looking to employ a university assistant (postdoc) as soon as possible for a period of four years. The Chair’s research centres on globalisation processes in law from a historical perspective, with the aim of challenging Europe-centric narratives and putting the focus on complex dynamics of change. The holder of the position will work in a committed team that enjoys scientific debate and exchange. The holder of the position will be expected to work on her/his own research project (with the aim of habilitation or a second book), to contribute to developing innovative teaching projects, and to independently teach courses within the Chair’s subject range.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
- active participation in research, teaching and administration
- developing and strengthening an independent research profile
- involvement in research projects
- international publications and presentations
- responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
- preparing / writing a (publication-ready) habilitation thesis or second book
- independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- supervision of students
- participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance
- involvement in department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
- doctoral degree/PhD in legal studies, history or social sciences
- very good knowledge of non-European legal history and corresponding methodological competence in global history
- teaching skills are desired
- high ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- excellent command of written and spoken English, further language skills are desired
- IT user skills
- ability to work in a team
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have:
- teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- experience of working on research projects
- publications in renowned, subject-relevant media
- international presentation experience
Desirable qualifications are:
- knowledge of university processes and structures
- experience abroad
- experience of supervising students
