Despite the European roots of Russian law, the Russian legal tradition and the Russian system of administration differ in several respects from those elsewhere in Europe due to Russia’s long history as a superpower and the special status of the Orthodox religion and the Orthodox Church in Russia. In addition, the 20th century was marked by the Soviet period, during which the system of law and administration took shape based on socialist models.
For a person to be eligible for a tenure track position, he or she must have completed a doctoral degree in and are expected to remarkable scientific and teaching merits and notable expertise in some of the following areas of research: private law, criminal and procedural law or public law. The assistant/associate professor may also represent, for example, research on legal history or comparative law. The assistant/associate professor of Russian law and administration will be involved in both the multidisciplinary module of Russian studies and the module of global law studies. The assistant/associate professor’s research field will include issues of Russian law and administration from a broad point of view. Besides a legal research approach, the appointee may also use a research approach based on administrative science. The successful candidate is expected to have as well a good command of Russian.
